We believe there are many things that make a great holiday and indeed a great life: Being close to people you love, being close to nature and all its wonders, feeling safe and pampered and eating delicious food made with produce that is fresh & seasonal. 

We hope you will find all this and more during your stay at The Artisan Bakehouse.

As our name suggests we like to bake!

We love food and are passionate about its origins, preparation methods and of course how it tastes! Having spent a lifetime of enjoying good food and also having had the opportunity to work in the food & hospitality industry for many years this has led us to create The Artisan Bakehouse. 

We have recently lived in France for eight years and learnt a little (well, let's be honest a lot!) about enjoying good bread and have developed a passion for making it by traditional artisan methods.    

When you stay with us you will be welcomed with a hamper of homemade treats and will be sure to smell the aroma of fresh bread baking most days.

Sussex is a foodlover’s paradise. The moist, rich soil and mild climate favour all forms of food production, from cheeses and meats to fresh produce, preserves and even local wines.  There is a strong tradition of artisan food production and many farmers markets locally.

Within 5 minutes there is a great selection of pubs and casual dining and nearby some excellent restaurants too.

Dinner is also available at The Artisan Bakehouse on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday nights. It is a very special experience, with guests seated around a candlelit table as a fire crackles in the grate or in the summer months in the garden with nature,  soaking up the rural scene.

The set menu is built around the finest Sussex ingredients, wherever possible from local farms and producers or from our garden itself.  You will be guaranteed some of our delicious homebaked speciality artisan bread and of course something sweet to tempt you!

We also offer home made take out options delivered to your door for you to enjoy in the privacy of your own accommodation.

A hearty Sussex breakfast can be enjoyed to set you up for a day in the countryside. An informal affair, either served in our beamed dining room or on the terrace. Start the day with fresh fruit, juice or smoothie, yogurts, our homemade muesli, jams, and of course our just-baked breads.  We are proud to support local farmers and use only the best tastiest sausages & bacon and the eggs are fresh from our chickens - all cooked on the AGA how you like them!
